born and raised in caveta
left malinda and his baby to pursue pretentious art bullshit, and because he's a bigoted Fuckhead that dislikes magic. funny thing is, the kid got the recessive magic gene that ara had. super in denial about it
took malinda's art and money and booked it to a different, more populous part of caveta, because of an art show that was gonna take place there that he Really wanted to be a part of. he showed her stuff along with his own, which was mostly finished versions of sketches that were in her sketchbook

kept using his ex's works until, shit, he already showed off every piece of art. by that point (at least a few years to a decade?), he's made many connections in caveta's art world
someone pointed ara towards the art schools in caveta. it was then he had the idea of starting a studio
upon seeing aidan integrate illusion magic with art at a showing from caveta’s institute for visual arts, ara realized, "shit. i could make money off of him"
made a name for himself in the art world. paulo, admiring their work, invited him on the ship as an offer (plus money) to get some art of them commissioned
ara brought aidan along. he must make sure his golden goose is onboard
